Ehhh... If you can get away with this, then awesome. I try and keep the minions right out of range of the tower whenever I can. You can't always get away with this... In fact you can hardly ever get away with it. Any smart player is poking the hell out of you while your taking all that minion damage. Rather than do this, I find it a lot more beneficial to learn to last hit under a tower. This gets rid of the needless minion damage, and eliminates most enemies from poking you at risk of taking turret damage.

2 turret hits to soldiers makes them ripe for a last hit. Casters, auto attack each one before the turret hits, then attack again after the turret hit. With practice you can get a whole wave easily under your turret.... As long as there isnt a certain Soraka there messing up your rhythm with starfall.

The video does have a point when they say to really focus on doing this after your tower has been destroyed. I see people, and myself, just willy nilly push lanes from their inner tower all the way past river just to try and get a burst of xp/gold. Staying by your inner tower and controlling the lane to afford yourself more than the 3 waves it takes to get back to their tower is a lot more beneficial.

As a side note, while these tactics are great and very useful to learn, I think what we lack is a sense of strategy. We need to start a discussion on what to do after lane phase, when to push, when to defend, controlling the enemy jungle after the lane phase with wards and presence, etc.... Perhaps we could come up with a few starts, post them here, then refer the people we are playing with (boki, celph, stranger, etc) to them, and give them a few minutes before each game to look them over.

Sorry for the wall of text.

TL;DR: control creep waves if you can, but otherwise learn to last hit under a tower. Control waves if your outer tower is gone. We need to come up with some strats.

It's just something for the lower level players (and anyone who is interested) to think about and chew on. :) Definitely not the end all but it's just something to get them started on learning how to control the minion wave. Thanks for adding to it! :d

I've found that watching high Elo streams have helped my playing as well as playing at least a game every so often. If you would like to get better, try watching people who stream champs similar to the ones you play. If you feel that maybe you could do better in a specific role but don't know who to watch to get better, I'm sure someone we play with can suggest some streams to watch.

This game is a lot like other games: the more you play the better you get. Taking a couple months break is fine to recharge those batteries, but realize that you won't be the best when you come back. You have to get back into it and expect some rusty playing at the beginning. Also, try to be aware that there is ALWAYS room for improvement. If you would like someone to lead you through some strats before they are executed, just ask. :) Sometimes I forget that we have all had to learn at some point!

Also... It helps to know the meta, so you can pick champs based on what is needed.

This changes occasionally, but you'll know it when it happens.

Right now the best team make-up is this:

Top lane - Solo tanky ap/ad. Bonus if the champ has sustain. My current favorites in this spot are Singed, Garen, Udyr, Nasus, Cho Gath, Riven.

Mid lane - Solo AP ranged caster. Current favorites would be Annie, Morgana, Brand, Lux, Viegar.

Bot Lane - Duo lane with one support and one ranged AD. Favorite AD carries are Vayne, Caitlyn, and Graves. Favorite support are Soraka, Janna, Alistar, and Taric.

Jungler - Most junglers are Tanky Melee AD champs... Not all, but most. The jungle is very easy now, so you can get away with almost anyone. My favorites include Lee Sin, Udyr, Trundle, and Riven.

Learn at LEAST one of each of these roles. Not only will it make you a better player and understand what each champ does in their specified role, it will also give those who play with you a chance to rotate around and play roles that they aren't used to... Making everyone better in the long run. When I first started, I only ever played Teemo.... This was for like 50 games. Kiryael had Nunu, Jiggy had Annie, Lok had Miss Fortune, and Karsiss STILL has Corki. It is a mistake... But maybe one that has to be made by everyone?

Ok, if I wanted to pick a role to play, I'd like to play in order from most want to play to least:

- AD
- Jungle
- Top
- Support
- Mid

edit: after thinking about it, I decided to change it up. Really I'd love to do any of these. I would even enjoy doing mid. :) I'll fill any role. And if no one wants to support, I don't mind doing it.
