I have noticed that us LoL players have fallen into a slump. There are a lot of “tactics” that we can all work on (last hitting, zoning, hitting under a tower, counter-picking champs, etc), but I’d like to focus on some overall game strategies. We could have an awesome lane phase where we harass and creep kill like champions, but then we fall apart after a tower or two goes down. No one takes charge, and everyone seems to just do their own thing, eventually meeting in mid lane to have a team fight. Well, lets try and change this. Submit any strategy ideas you may have. These could include unique team compositions with overall game strategies using that comp. Also feel free to comment other’s strategies.
I’ll get us started.
Follow the Leader
Team comp: (Standard Meta)Tank/tanky DPS top, Tank/tanky DPS jungle, AP mid, support & AD carry bot
Example: Cho-Gath top, Lee Sin jungle, Brand Mid, Janna & Ashe bot
It would be great if most, if not all, of the team had Teleport.
Early game:
Everyone knows what to do here. Farm. Farm as much as possible while trying to zone the enemy away from XP and last hits. Don’t force push a tower down. You want this phase to last as long as possible for the easiest XP and gold. Jungle needs to secure dragon. Dragon takes priority over ganks/towers/defense. EVERYONE should be buying wards, but jungle and support need to have wards on dragon/blue/red buffs. Bot lane: If AD needs to go back and buy, both of you push the lane to the tower and while the AD is buying, the support should CV into the enemy jungle and if its safe run in and ward the nearest buff.
Mid Game:
Once two of either teams towers are down (2 blue or 2 purple, not one of each), the lane phase is over. Everyone pushes their lane up as far as they can, goes back to buy/heal, and meets at wraiths. The tank is now the leader. Wherever the tank goes you go. In this case, it would be Cho. Cho runs the show. He should be leading the team around the jungle, getting buffs for those who need them, and killing dragon before they head into the enemy jungle. Vision is important, so everyone should ward up before they go out. We especially want vision on their red and blue as well as entrances to the enemy jungle from the enemy base.
Once your camp is set up in the enemy jungle, its time to punish them for extending. Everyone exits the jungle in a group, with Cho in the lead. Punish any enemy that goes more than a few feet pas their turret. If one squishy is protecting a turret, tower dive him and kill him, or at least make him afraid to be there. Finish off towers whenever possible.
Whoever the leader is needs to know that this is a hit and run strategy. Always get a kill or tower then recede back into the jungle (try to kill a wave or two of minions, though). Never go for 2 towers in a row unless 4+ of the enemy are dead. The purpose of this is to keep them guessing which way you’re going to go. The leader needs a presence of mind for this strategy. If you knock a tower down bot lane then go back into the jungle, the enemy will have a pretty good idea that you’re going to head to mid next. Maybe try going back into the jungle and waiting for a minute then going back out into the same lane. Or try backtracking to dragon, kill it, then run all the way up river, passing behind your creeps in mid lane, to gank top.
Late Game:
If things have gone well, the game should be over. If you’re still picking away at them, you can try to force a fight at baron… but at this point they should be so afraid of the jungle that they won’t have any wards, and you’ll get baron uncontested. Keep the pressure up on them, make them regret even the slightest mistake. If you have baron, try and catch one of them alone for the kill and then force a fight at an inhib or tower 5v4. If you see the team attempting to backdoor, then keep the pressure up. You may lose a tower, but now you know for a fact the fight is going to be 5v4. The back-doorer will have to come back or else lose his team and possibly an inhib. But if the leader deems it necessary to go back, you FOLLOW him back. No one breaks from the pack.
Things to remember:
The name of this strat is “Follow the Leader” for a reason. You don’t do your own thing. If a Teemo is pushed way past his lane, and is easy pickings, then jungler should not break from the group to kill him. That is up for the leader to decide. He wants to go after the Teemo? Great! He wants to get dragon instead, you follow him. Feel free to ping and make suggestions, but don’t just wander off by yourself.
You want the team to be hidden. Someone (support) needs an oracle to check for enemy wards. Try to avoid cutting across lanes through creep waves. This gives the enemy vision of you and lets them guess which way you're headed.
If you have anything to add, feel free to post it and I’ll update this strat. If you have your own you wish to add, post it up.
